"On mine arm shall they trust." ~ Isaiah 51:5

It's early morning here, and the blanket of dew still rests on the freshly mowed field in front of our temporary home. And dear friends, we want you to know that just as God sends the dew to refresh the earth, He gives peace and rest to his children during seasons of uncertainty and difficulty. Though we cannot explain His peace that is beyond our understanding, we have truly experienced it.

How can we fear or have doubts when underneath us are the everlasting arms? Our full confidence is in Him, and we give glory to Him. "On mine arm shall they trust." Isaiah 51:5. When the world as we know it crumbles about us, we truly find that our God is worth tens of thousands of worlds to us, and our souls are driven to Him and Him alone! I'm paraphrasing some of what I read in a devotional by Charles Spurgeon.

"Be strong and very courageous, and the Lord thy God shall certainly, as surely as He built the heavens and the earth, glorify Himself in thy weakness, and magnify His might in the midst of thy distress." by Charles Spurgeon.
The above was written in the early morning hours, and we just wanted to share some of our thoughts, and we wanted to give you an update. It's now Sunday evening, and this is really the first opportunity we've had, alone as a family, to share our thoughts and memories of the evening of the storm and its aftermath. We hope to record our perspectives of that evening and write a post very soon. I know that many of you might not wish to hear it, but I hope you will be patient with us. This blog will be sort of like a journal for us by the end of the year, and we thought it might be a good thing to put our memories of this time in writing. We do hope to eventually get back to farming, but this is also a part of our past, present, and it influences our future.

Tears were shed tonight, but the tears were not bitter tears. Our memories were of happy times, and we all felt keenly aware of how blessed we are to have had such a faithful and loving husband/father who pointed us to the Savior he loved so dearly. I think the suddenness of it all does leave us wishing we could have said our goodbyes, but someday goodbyes will not be necessary at all! And I'd love to be able to tell him again how much I loved and respected him, but I can't. I guess that's why I'm telling you...maybe you can tell your husband, your child, your parent, your father or mother-in-law, or your friend...again...and again...and again. And he wouldn't want me to portray him as a perfect man; he was very aware of his need of a Savior, of His grace, and of His mercies which are new every morning. And lastly, I realize his life wasn't *cut short*. I believe he lived the exact number of days appointed him, and I rejoice in that. It doesn't make me/us miss him less, but I/we do rejoice for him. "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain." Philippians 1:21

On a different note, Tiffiny, Emily, and Jacob are improving! Emily is walking some without her walker:) She mainly needs it in case her knees buckle. They are working on strengthening the muscles above her knees. Tiffiny went back to physical therapy on Thursday, and they had her walk around the room twice. Her blood work has also been good each week. Jacob can now lift his eye brows, completely close one eye, and half way close the other eye!

Thank you for your continued prayers, acts of kindness, and concern. We appreciate each and every one of you, and many of you we've never even met!

Good night, and God bless you all:)

"On mine arm shall they trust." Isaiah 51:5 --- May it be so. Amen.

for the family

  1. My dear sister, there's not a day since this tragedy that you haven't been in my prayers.... indeed you're in my thoughts most hours of the day :) I am so glad to hear updates of your daughters, and have wondered how they, and your son, are. Thank you for keeping us informed for the sake of our prayers. I pray God's richest blessing on you all. Please know that you are being prayed for - as you say, by those whom you've never met.
Much love in Christ, Anne (Scotland) x

  2. Oh, so beautiful. I am amazed at the grace and peace with which you speak.

Thank you. And I will thank my husband, prompted by you.

  3. Thank you for your precious words...

Praising the Lord with you on your children's improvements...

  4. Sherry sweet friend...I am so happy to see you writing! I have missed my new friend...and I know that this is shelfish of me with all you have going on...just keeping it real!

Praise God for the steady healing of the children's physical problems.I carry scars from a childhood accident.Your boo boo's can heal...but there are underlying fears a child carries with them.I wished we had the knowledge back then that we have now for talking things out and for all this journaling. It would of sped up my mental healing so much faster!!

You have such a road ahead of you..that most wouldn't know what or how to handle it. I believe by journaling will give words for those who someday might be in similiar shoes...and the memory of how you handled things..and survived on a daily basis will be a true testament to your faith..your family's love and your walk as a woman...led by God.

I am praying for you and your family daily...and I will pray that the words you need to write will be healing words...and teaching words.

Hugs and big Tx squeezes..Cindy from Rick-Rack and Gingham

  8. Your words, your peace, your perspective, speak volumes. What a blessing to see such trust and comfort in Christ. Our sermon Sunday was on Love always trusts. Love always has faith. Your love is such a beautiful picture of that verse, trust and faith in our Lord. We are so thankful to hear from you and am grateful for the updates. We are constantly praying for you and speak of you in love often.

  10. So good to hear from you dear friend.. Thankful that our God is so faithful to His dear ones.

  11. Sherry and family, What a wonderful Husband and Daddy Tom was! We knew you all a long time back at Liberty. Your loss makes me think of the book of Job. Job 1:18-22 While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, "Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house, and behold, a great wind came across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young people, and they are dead, and I alone have escaped to tell you." Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. And he said, "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return. The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD." In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong.
God's ways are not our ways, and I wonder if we will ever know all the hearts changed because of your family's witness through this trial? I know God will give your family peace because you trust in Him. Ps.139:16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
Lord God, We are ever mindful of the precious gift that You have given us through Your Son. It is true, Your grace is sufficient! Satan is defeated! You rule and reign! May You be glorifed through all things! Amen
We will pray for your family often but no one can give comfort like the Word of God!

  12. Dear Mrs. Sherry
Thank you for allowing our Heavenly Father to work thou you and your family. Just a small look at what He is doing. We know what it's like to be taken out of our comfort zone. And face things we are unsure of. When we lived in Ala. as a child we did not know the hand of God, but learned to see it as a young couple. When we moved from this state we were not walking with the Lord, and thru some godly people in our life they helped us learn of our Heavenly Father and His great love for us. When we moved back to Ala. We were no longer just a couple but now the parents of five wonderful children that God blessed us with. Our biggest concern was for our family to have others around them to help us grow in our walk with the Lord. God has answered this pray thru your family and others in this valley He has placed in our life. We are thankful and have been truly blessed to become your friends. May Our Heavenly Father be your strength always.
A fiend in Christ is a blessing over and over again.
Praying for all of you the Wright Family

  13. Sherry, I am so thankful that you are writing it all down. each of you is such a blessing. you are actually doing us all a kindness by sharing your heart and reminding me to constantly keep my eyes on Jesus and loving and serving my family. It is so easy for me to take so much for granted and that is not God's best for His children. We are praising God for Tiiffiny, Emily and Jacob's progress! Know that we are praying for you everyday and look forward to seeing you again soon. love and hugs, Jen for the Key fam.

  14. I put your family's blog on my rss feed so I can keep you in prayer!
