Spring Planting
Spring is just around the corner and we are busily preparing seedlings for the gardens. Potatoes and peas were planted weeks ago with Jim and Jack, the horses, plowing these fields for their first time.
Our oldest son purchased the team of Percheron draft horses in the fall of 2010, and their first project was powering the sorghum press. Although they'd never been trained for pressing sorghum, they performed BEAUTIFULLY.
For those who are interested, we hope to post a future series about our first ever sorghum making adventure.
Thanks to everyone...friends, family, neighbors,...for all the hard work, the encouraging words, and the helpful advice!
We were blessed with around 240 quarts of the yummy, sticky, sweet substance. Much of it is being used to replace the honey in our bread and cookie recipes. A good years worth of sweetener lining our pantry shelves!
Blessings,
Sherry
